It's been almost a week since the first ever indoor tournament that we've hosted. At this point last week we believed we had the ground rules perfected and ready to go. Although things went pretty smooth for the most part, there were some strange plays and some rules just didn't work inside like they do outside. This week has been a lot of collecting opinions from players that attended and revising the rulebook for future indoor events. Ground rules have been tweaked. We will be buying a tarp/net for the right field section to help keep balls in play. Also, no more foul balls off the wall for outs. That was aggravating wasn't it? Oh, and if the ball stops on the section where the fence and net meet...that's no longer an out either. It will be ruled a ground rule double. Would have never guessed the ball would have stopped on that part of the fence let alone multiple times. The pitchers circle will be smaller this go round. That gave the fielders too much of an edge. Remember when a fly ball could be caught and tossed to the circle before the runner had to time to take one step back to the base? Yeah well that's no longer an out. The runner will have to be tagged or pegged. This revisions will make the game much better and help keep us all from going over the deep end.
Some things we loved at this tournament were the scoreboard as a timer, the fast pace of play, and how awesome the tape stuck to the turf. Tape not sticking to the turf would have created one hell of a headache but by the middle of the day it was looking like it was painted on the turf. Access to the scoreboard/timer was great. Kept us from having to constantly keep an eye on our watches. The atmosphere in the facility was great too. So with making the revisions coupled with all the good that went on at the tournament, we're sure the next one (and more down the road) will be awesome!
